About

About Me

I’m a follower of Christ, military spouse, mother, and farm-maker. Originally from Indianapolis, I joined the Air Force at 17 and added nearly 10 years of military service to my name. After spending 4 years on active duty at the Air Force Academy I moved to Alaska and joined the Air National Guard. Alaska is also where I met and married my husband Jay (Leap Year Day 2004). We’ve been stationed in Alaska, Arkansas, Illinois, and back to Arkansas again (when Jay joined the Arkansas Air National Guard, January 2013). Lately, we’ve been enjoying life on the farm with our two children, 2 rescued dogs, and 24 spoiled #LitChicks.

In addition to being a farm-maker, I’m also a book clubber and avid reader. Originally, Christian Shelf-Esteem was established as a way of sharing my favorite books with the Women’s Ministry at church. Since then the blog has taken on a life of its own. I enjoy posting reviews and hearing what other readers have to say about titles we have in common.

Thank you for being here, for reading and commenting on my reviews, and connecting on social media.

Blessings,

Amanda Geaney

  1. I’m a virtual assistant to a few amazingly talented authors. #dreamjob
  2. The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers won me to Christian fiction.
  3. I judge books by their covers.
  4. Lately, I’ve been geeking out over church history, theology podcasts, and classic Christian literature.
  5. I am every bit of the ISTJ Meyers-Briggs says I am.
  6. There’s always a song stuck on repeat in my head. 🎶
  7. Vacuum lines in the carpet make me happy.
  8. National Parks occupy most of my bucket list.
  9. I was raised Catholic, but I left the church soon after I enlisted. Many years later, a co-worker shared the gospel with me. At that time (2003), something in my soul awakened and I fell upon the mercy and grace of my Savior, Jesus Christ.
  10. I’m currently reading the Bible cover to cover with our 9-year-old daughter.

Ratings System

I’ve moved away from a star-based review system on the blog. By doing so I hope to shift the focus away from the rating and back to the author’s originality, character development, and writing style.

⭐️ Value System (I used in older posts)

5: I bestow this rating on books that are EXTRAORDINARY — they move me deeply, strike me as being unique for their genre, or stick with me long after I put them down.

#didntseethatcoming   #tearjerker   #SUSPENSE!    #pageturner     #riveting    #MustRead    #bookclub    #TopPick    #Bestof2016

Bottom Line: These are books I expect to read again and again.

4: I really enjoyed the book and/or thought it was VERY GOOD — the likelihood of me re-reading the book is favorable.

3: It was GOOD — I liked it/found it to be entertaining.

(This rating is not meant to be a slight against the author or the book.)

2: FAIR — What we have here is a failure to connect. In most cases, I will only post these reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.

  2. You have a beautiful blog. Happy to connect with you, Amanda. My first writing job was for an Air Force newspaper. My husband was in the Army for sixteen years and our son is in the National Guard. And we farm. Sounds like we have a lot in common. Looking forward to getting to know you.
