My Thoughts

IMG_4984My daughter and I enjoyed this book immensely. As a mother, I liked how the five bible stories were retold. They align with scripture and shared an important attribute of Christ: His divinity, power to heal, and ability to forgive sin. My favorite example, “Jesus had the power to perform this miracle because He is more than just a man; He is also God…It was not a magic trick but a real miracle so that God could show His power.” The illustrations are as bright and colorful as a bowl of jelly beans. We noticed that some of the searchable items were easy to find and others took a team effort. This made for a playful back and forth banter between my daughter and I. Though the book is not labeled as a wipe-off book, the slick pages are perfect for checking off items from the search and find checklist and circling the located images.

Every children’s ministry teacher has shared these stories with their students. Incorporating this storybook into your class, reading the passage and then taking turns allowing the children to find the hidden images, would be a wonderful way to engage students in the lesson. Introducing the book at the beginning of class may help capture the attention of younger children who hate to be separated from mommy.  It could also be used at the end of the class during the transitional period when children are awaiting their parents to pick them up.

IMG_4983This book couldn’t have come to our house at a better time! My daughter was home from school with the flu and this activity book provided a bright spot in her day. For this reason I believe it would make an awesome gift for a sick or hospitalized child. Of course, it would also make a great addition to a Christ-centered Easter basket.

If B&H Publishing added another addition to the New Testament Stories I would buy it in a heartbeat. I give the book 5/5 stars for it’s accurate retellings, colorful illustrations, and shareable family fun.
